Construction on Memphis Ave.

From an email I got from Ches this morning:

It has been said that you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. So, the City is preparing to break an egg by starting construction of a water line in Memphis from Guy Park to Huneke Park. The contractor has told us that he will start construction this week at the 87th St. and hopes to be completely finished within 2 weeks. During that time, all or portions of Memphis Ave. from 84th to 87th Sts. will be impacted. Traffic my be restricted to one lane and one direction to allow Honey to function as normally as possible.

The initial purpose of this 8 inch pipeline is to pump water from Guy Park to the South Central Storm Sewer System in Andrews Park. After the line is installed, the city will place a trailer mounted, diesel powered pump near the north end of Guy Park. It has a sound damping enclosure so hopefully it won't disturb any of you too much. It should be able to lower Guy to the target water level within 7 to 10 days.

In the near future (2007), this line will be used to pump water from 3 wells the city plans to drill in Guy Park to the Pump Station at the NW corner of 82nd & Memphis. This groundwater will be combined w/ groundwater from other wells, treated then pumped into the reservoir to be used for drinking water. A portion of the water from the 3 wells will also be used for irrigating the park.

All of this will help w/ local basement flooding and potential street flooding since Guy Park seems want to stay full most of the time now.

Please pass this information on to your neighbors so they can hopefully avoid the area and some delays.

Thank you all for your patience.
